CMA Strategic Leadership Program

It’s amazing how time flies. It feels like only recently that I came out of writing the Entrance Exam, but that was in June of last year. Since then we have completed two modules of the SLP and currently in the middle of module number 3. Next will be the Case exam scheduled for May of this year.

Over the past few months we have been completing several assignments, one due almost every week. Subject matters are mainly concentrated on strategic management, performance management and measurement and corporate governance.

What I find exciting about the SLP are the interactive sessions. These are two days of in-class sessions where we discuss and analyze the material that was covered in the previous module. It is an opportunity for all candidates to work in teams and share and critique ideas of one another. These sessions teach you valuable skills in team work, collaboration and critical thinking. It also improves your communications and presentations skills. Leadership can also be fostered here when you are working together as a team to solve complex business cases and later present them in front of your peers.

The next interactive session is scheduled for this month and I am looking forward to meeting everyone at yet another intensive weekend.

The Strategic Leadership Program (SLP) of the CMA qualification process is a two year, six module program that is done concurrently with full time employment in the accounting and finance field. In order to enter the SLP, candidates must have passed the CMA Entrance Exam. For more information on this program please visit the CMA Ontario website.
